Night Moves Race #6 - Event Details
Team NeighborLink is grateful you’ve decided to participate in Race #6, Fantasy of Lights edition. We anticipate almost 70 runners tomorrow night and 100% of the proceeds of this race will go to helping us fund a new furnace for a neighbor in need yet this year. We'd funded two furnaces this year and working on a 3rd and 4th. We have Blue Jacket, Inc to thank for giving us the opportunity to host this race at Fantasy of Lights. So, thank Blue Jacket and consider bringing your family through the lights before the end of the year. They do great work in the community.
Below are some final details about the event that should give you direction. If you have questions not being answered, send us an email and we’ll reply as soon as we can.
Check-In/Start Location: We’ll have a Team NeighborLink table setup right next to "Millie" our truck in the MAIN CHILDRENS ZOO PARKING LOT (Read below for parking instructions). Please visit this table to check in, sign our waiver, and grab your thank you gift.
We don't have an indoor location this time to meet pre-race, so layer up and bring a little bag to shed those layers before race. You can leave your bag at the truck and we'll have NL staff with the truck the entire time.
Event Timing: Check-In opens at 9:30p, Race Welcome & Final Instructions, 9:55p - Race Starts at 10:05p
Flashlight or Headlamps: You're going to NEED one or the other for this race due to the darkness of this route. We're running through grass fields and the trails of the park and need the light to watch for holes and roots. You can pick up a headlamp/flashlight for $10 and you really should own either if you don't already.
Post Race Food & Drinks: NO Post Race event location has been determined due to no inside locations at the park available for us. Once the race is done, we encourage you to stick around until everyone is done if you can. I'm sure that evening, a group will go somewhere and we'll do our best to communicate that in order to encourage hanging out. We'll have some waters, soda, and some NUUN Hydration mix ready for you after the run. We may even have some hot chocolate.
NO BYOB at the Park please, highly frowned upon.
Course Details: Race starts/ends in the Zoo parking lot, hits 97% of the light displays, and incorporates many grass fields and trails throughout Franke Park.
Course Notes: This course is as extreme as we've gotten with Night Moves. Every running surface you can imagine will be hit and all of the trails do have exposed roots causing tripping hazards. Take your time, look down, and proceed with caution if you aren't an experience night trail runner. (Is anyone, really?) The good thing is that you shouldn't expect much mud. There may be some slick spots, but no real mud with the warm temps this week.

Course Marking & Direction: We have over a dozen volunteers standing at main turns & staked glow sticks throughout the grass & trail areas. Follow those glow sticks and people with flashlights talking to you and you'll be fine.
Open Course: This course will be a closed course with only the Fantasy of Lights traffic on 1/3 of the course, which will be going extremely slow and in a predictable path. However, stay cautious and understand they may not see you since you're coming from behind. Watch for those cars and try not to weave in and out of them. Run at close to the edge of the road or just into the grass if you need to.
Timing & Results: We will have a mass start and a running stopwatch as a means to make sure the first male and female runners get an official time and we can determine a winner, but we won’t have a fancy timing system to keep your time for you. This is a fun run and not a competitive event. If timing is important to you, then I imagine you already have a running watch or GPS that will keep that for you.
Winners: We have another "functional" prize for you. We're going to award the best dress male & female runner this round. This isn't a "dress up" kind of a run, but if you do, there may be some NL swag in it for you.
Parking: The Overflow parking lot directly across from the main Zoo parking lot on the corner of Sherman & Franke Park Dr is the best spot to park due to the busy car traffic for the Fantasy of Lights and the closest to start line. GIVE YOURSELF PLENTY OF TIME to get there because event staff said traffic is backing up down Sherman in both directions. If you have the patience to wait in the car line or it just happens to not be bad to get into main Zoo parking lot, please consider parking there with the NL truck.
Rain Policy: The forecast is looking good. If it changes, we'll run anyway in light rain. In heavy rain, it's just too cold and we'll figure out a way to refund your dollars or transfer registrations to another Night Moves event.
Event Swag: Swag is limited for this event because we pulled this one together quickly and it wasn't planned. We do have bottles, socks, cups, and a few Team NL shirts available. We'll also have some other stuff on hand, just nothing new.
