Night Moves Race 1 - Final Details

Team NeighborLink is grateful you’ve decided to participate in Race #1 of the inaugural Night Moves Running Series. It takes a curious, self-motivated, and adventurous person to volunteer with NeighborLink Fort Wayne  and we’ve learned it takes those same traits to find our Team NeighborLink events exciting and worth trying. We create events that require vulnerability to go on a route you’ve never been on before and one that requires you to trust others to get you through.

Night Moves will be all of the above with the right amount of security, direction, and organization to make sure every aspect that can be controlled, runs smoothly.

Below are some final details about the event that should give you direction. If you have questions not being answered, send us an email and we’ll reply as soon as we can.

Check-In/Start Location: We’ll have a Team NeighborLink tent up near Pint & Slice on Calhoun St. Please visit this tent to check in, sign our waiver, and grab your thank you gift.

Event Timing: Check-In opens at 9:30p, Race Welcome & Final Instructions, 9:55p - Race Starts at 10:05p

Bathrooms: Pint & Slice is partnering with us and has graciously offered their restroom to us.

Pint & Slice: They’re staying open until 11:30p for any post-race celebration runners want to do. They’ll have some pizza ready and beer on tap if anyone wants anything. Each runner will receive a $5 gift card that night to use then or use at another time. (Trying to figure out whether runners want pizza & beer at 10:45 or 11pm is a bit of a challenge, so gift cards were chosen). Please patronize them!

Course Details: Race starts in the alley next to Pint & Slice, weaves through West Central, back towards Wells St Bridge, and loops back up Calhoun St with a surprise finish line that will be announced just before the race. The total mileage is 3.4mi

Course Map: This is 95% correct based on what we could do via GPS. The rest will be clearly marked -

Course Marking & Direction: We will have 6-8 cyclists with flashing lights riding with the runners who will know the course. Two riders will lead the race, two will ride behind the last runners, and the others will mix in with the runners as a way to show the way while also creating some extra protection from cars. The route will also have spray chalk markings at every turn on the ground so you can see where to go. We don’t want you to get lost, or at least that lost.

Open Course: This course will be an open course, which means there will be cars and traffic to be aware of and be courteous to. We’ve done our best to choose low-traffic streets, utilize bike lanes where possible, and make sure there are sidewalks for those not up for running in the streets. Be aware of traffic and use your common sense when crossing streets just like you do when you run on your own.

Timing & Results: We will have a mass start and a running stopwatch as a means to make sure the first male and female runners get an official time and we can determine a winner, but we won’t have a fancy timing system to keep your time for you. This is a fun run and not a competitive event. If timing is important to you, then I imagine you already have a running watch or GPS that will keep that for you.

Winners: We have a fancy custom engraved hammer trophy for the winning Male and Female runners. They’re sweet!

Parking: Parking downtown isn’t that hard, but being a Friday night, it may be kind of busy. If you can’t find parking around the Wayne/Berry block, consider the street parking on the other side of Clinton near the Citizen Square building.

Rain Policy: The forecast is calling for possible showers, which will just make the race that much more interesting. We will run the race in the rain as long as there is no lighting/thunder in the area. If it’s down pouring right before the start, we will take cover in parking garage and try to wait for it to let up a bit before starting. If for some reason the event needs to be canceled due to weather, we will give each participant the opportunity take a refund, transfer to a different Night Moves date, apply it towards Team NL gear, or just let it be a donation to NeighborLink.

Full Race Series Runners Swag: You’ll have the option to choose one of our official Team NL running or training shirts as a thank you gift for committing to the whole series. You can check that gear out here and pick the night of.

June 12th Event Swag: Each runner will receive a $5 Pint & Slice gift card and have the option to choose from a Night Moves t-shirt, a Team NL water bottle, or receive one of our 20% off gift certificates that allows you to purchase some official Team NL gear.

I believe this is it. If we’ve left anything out, please let me know. We’re looking forward to meeting you.
