The 2016 Team NeighborLink Great 80 was a great day of cycling with new and old friends. We had 78 riders across 8 teams show up and take on the 82.5 mile route through the back roads of Whitley, Allen, and Noble county in NE Indiana.

The Great 80 presents a unique experience unlike any other event in the area that serves to push riders with both an unknown route and challenging distance. It requires the commitment, trust, and teamwork of the riders in order to participate. Ever since Team NeighborLink started The Great 80 and the Night Run series a few years ago, we realized that these events are similar to our volunteer projects and those that participate have many of the same characteristics as those that choose to volunteer with us. They like to do what not many others want to do and come out more for the experience than anything else.

For the teams and individuals that choose to race, the Great 80 provides an exciting competition.  This year, our first place team was No Limits Racing completing the ride in a time of 3 hours and 59 minutes. Winning the solo category was Luke Landis finishing in 4 hours and 8 minutes with an average speed just less than 20 mph.  The first place finishers received a custom engraved hammer designed and carved by Matthew Plett as a trophy and a thank you for participating. Check out Matt's custom artwork and order a piece from him. You'll love it.

We have so many volunteers to thank that spend all day working registration tables, monitoring riders, working checkpoints/sag stops, taking photos, and providing assistance wherever needed. Without volunteers, no rides like these would exist. We are also grateful to Joseph Decuis for partnering with us again this year to provide one of the most incredible locations we could ask for as well as preparing delicious food for 100 hungry riders, volunteers, and guests. Also, Chapmans Brewing Company provided some delicious beer. They're a local brewer creating really delicious beer. Check it out the next time you're looking for a craft brew.

Thank you for your support and I hope you continue to spread the word about Team NeighborLink and our events.
