Last Friday at Night Moves #4, we had a fantastic night running through southwest Fort Wayne. We started off from Mad Anthonys Children’s Hope House, a non-profit organization that provides overnight accommodations for families with children in community hospitals.
The 5k route went down the Towpath Trail around part of Lutheran Hospital's campus, west down Aboite Center Road, and across the I-69 sidewalk path. From there, the course went south toward Village at Coventry, weaved through the surrounding neighborhoods, and eventually led back toward Mad Anthonys. This route allowed our runners to experience a portion of the southwest side of Fort Wayne from the interesting perspective of a nighttime run.
Nearly 50 runners registered for last Friday's run, and everyone had a great time. Our male champion for the night was Ben Steele who finished in a time of 18:06. On the female side, the run was a close finish with our winner, Molly Kurtz, coming in at 25:32.
Friday night would not have been possible without the help of our faithful volunteers. We would like to thank them for taking the time to help direct and encourage the participants during the run. We appreciate their enthusiasm and support during all our Team NeighborLink events. Also, thanks to 3 Rivers Running Company for supporting Team NL and having a presence at our events this year.
A portion of the proceeds from Night Moves #4 will go toward Mad Anthonys Children's Hope House. For every race #4 registration, $5.00 will be donated to Mad Anthonys to help support their mission. We are excited about what their organization has to offer and the positive impact it has on the community. The remainder of the funds will be put toward the material costs to help a neighbor in need get a roof. Each Night Moves helps a different neighbor with a project beyond their physical and financial ability to meet on their own.
