2016 Night Moves Race 5 Recap
Despite a few challenges, we had a great night last Friday running just east of downtown at Night Moves #5. Our host that night, Anchor Films, let the runners hang out in their studio and provided food and drinks after the race. We are thankful for their support of Team NeighborLink and their willingness to host us! They took great care of our runners and made sure everyone had a good time. The storms that lasted right up until 30 minutes before the race caused some route changes, volunteer changes, and a bit of last minute crisis control that caused a few things to not go as planned. Thank you to all the runners that showed a lot of grace to our staff and had fun anyway.
Joining us that night was Three Rivers Running Company with 361 Degrees shoes for our runners to demo during the race. Cutter Fitness also joined us and gave free tests with their Skulpt readers that measure body fat and lean muscle mass. We were excited that they were able to come hang out and show us the cool stuff they have to offer.
The nearly 4-mile route highlighted some of the most scenic spots in the area east of downtown. To summarize, the runners went north across the Maumee River, through a portion of Lakeside Park, north on Forest Park Blvd, back down through the surrounding neighborhoods, across the St. Joe River, and back to Anchor Films.
Nearly 50 runners registered for last Friday's run. Although we had some bad weather earlier that evening, things cleared up just in time for the race and we had a great turnout. Our champions that night were Paul Richardson and Courtney Chaffins. Despite some confusion on the route, our runners stayed positive and upbeat. In the midst of the malfunctions, we appreciated their understanding. Overall, everyone had a great time!
Friday night would not have been possible without the help of our faithful volunteers. We would like to thank them for taking the time to help direct and encourage the participants during the run. We appreciate their enthusiasm and support during all our Team NeighborLink events!
100% of the proceeds from Friday’s race will go towards one of NeighborLink Fort Wayne’s roofing projects. Many people in our community are in need of a new roof and events like this will allow those families to receive help before the winter. Each Night Moves helps a different neighbor with a project beyond their physical and financial ability to meet on their own. Your participation makes a difference by allowing these projects to become a reality.
